The Science of Soap

Did you know that men (and women) have been making soap for nearly 5000 years?  An early formula for soap was found etched on a clay tablet dating back to ancient Babylon!

Soap is still around today, ranging from the ever popular Dove syndet bar with “1/4 moisture” to Shiseido’s $100 Cle de Peau Synactif Soap (yes, you read that right. . . $100 for soap).  But what makes soap, soap?  How is it different from a surfactant based product?  How is it made?  And, more importantly, how can we leverage it in new products today?

Join us on April 26th to learn all this and more as Twincraft‘s Curt Durfee leads an open discussion on the history of soap, what saponification is, the differences between liquid and solid soap, how to formulate soap, and more.  The meeting will be held at Nuovo Restaurant in Worcester.  You can register online here, or on-site.  Curt’s presentation will begin at 5:30, followed by dinner and dessert.
